We
are going to begin a new English project the week before your February
half-term holiday (Week 8).
What?
The
project will give you a chance to practise using English to speak and write
about things that inspire and intrigue you. You will have the chance to work
alone and in groups. When we write, it will be on our own blog and web page. If
we make presentations, do interviews or films, we will post them on the site
too. The project will begin in a fairly controlled way, but we will then
develop the work according to your interests.
How?
Here
are some of the sort of things we could do, but different ideas are welcome too:
·
Creative
writing, such as short stories or plays — always posted on our own blog, so
classmates can read and comment
·
Travel
writing, or finding out and writing about different places and their past
·
Emails
or letters to people or organizations to find out information, maybe as part of
an investigation; or job and study applications
·
Reports
on places, people or events that we can film on mobile phones and edit on
laptops.
You
can have a look at examples of a similar project we did at another Stockholm
school a year or so ago: http://insteadofpensandpaper.blogspot.se/. Here the pupils used the blog to do
their different writing tasks and their classmates could read and comment on
them. We used the blog to post instructions for coming tasks as well as links
to useful information
When?
The
classes will take place at the same time as your normal English classes. The
idea is that we will have around 8-10 pupils in each group. If you are interested,
let your teacher know. These classes will involve a lot of work. But we hope
the work will be interesting, challenging, and inspiring.
