Class 9A Read this

Answer this question in the space below for comments. Remember, you joined this group for a challenge.

I am feeling pretty old at the moment, another landmark birthday approaching, and I'm trying to remember what I was like when I was your age.

I want you to briefly describe one day, or one afternoon, or one evening, or even one hour, you have during this week's school holiday. You don't need to write much -- you are on holiday after all:)  But, describe it in a way that, if you read it in 30 or more years' time, you will remember the person you are now.

Or, in other words, don't just describe what you do, describe how what you do feels. If you are uncertain, feel free to write anonymously.

Blog rules: Obviously, in this format you can respond to what other people write. If you do, be respectful.

  1. This holiday, I was at my grandma’s at the countryside the whole week. I was bored one afternoon, so I decided to go to the pool, and that’s the most interesting thing that happened this week. To prevent myself from going crazy I set up this ridiculous goal for March: to swim 200 meters butterfly. So, when all my friends were in Stockholm having fun, I was in the pool swimming like a lunatic trying to reach a goal I’m very sure I won’t be able to achieve (I’m still trying though). I gave up after three days, as expected. After not moving my ass in six months, I wasn’t in as good shape as I used to be, especially since I quit swimming years ago. After 50 meters, I thought I was going to pass out, drown and die out of exhaustion. So, I decided that the best thing to do was to I take a break and ended up spending the rest of the week on the bed, watching Marvel movies with aching shoulders.

    1. Interesting Alma! Your writing is really good and fun. I have one question though. How are you planning to achieve your goal?

    2. With hard work and dedication I think ... We'll see how it goes!

  2. My family and I spent the holidays skiing up in northern Sweden. I’m not the best skier and I think that the steepest ski slopes are quite frightening. This day I woke up late and didn’t go out until after lunch. It was not so cold outside, the snow was melting, but the wind was blowing quite hard. I usually ski alone because then I don’t have to wait for someone else. When I left our house I skied down to the biggest ski lift and took that up to the top. The line was very long but for single skiers there’s another line so it didn’t take that long. This lift is the type of lift that you sit in together with five other people. Next to me sat a group of young adults who were screaming at the people below us to make them fall. I thought it was childish and immature. When we’re almost at the top of the steepest and scariest ski slope the lift suddenly stops and it feels as if the lift fell 2 m. I’m very scared of heights and even though I didn’t scream I felt my heart pumping. The lift swayed back and forth for a while and I started to wonder how long we were going to be stuck here. Soon the lift got going again, just to stop again and once more the lift dropped and started swaying. I was getting a bit worried, last year this lift had stood still for over an hour. Fortunately it didn’t take more than a few minutes before the lift was up and going again and I could safely continue skiing.

    1. You write very well and describe your feelings when the lift stopped, but I have one question. Isn't it boring to ski alone all days?

    2. No for me it doesn't get boring skiing alone. I like to ski with people that are in the same level as I, but none in my family are. So then I rather ski alone.

  3. I spent some days of my vacation up in northern Sweden, where there is plenty of snow at the moment. We stayed at my grandmother's place in Härnösand, which is a very small town. The main reason we went there was to ski and see a hockeygame. Unfortunately, the skilifts were closed the day we were going to. We still attended the hockey game though which was between to teams that comes from nothern Sweden. Obviously, it was an exciting game between these to rival teams (Modo - Timrå).

I cheer for Modo Hockey, and that was the team that had the home ground. Obviously, when we had gotten our seats, I was really pumped. Just because I knew it would be a good game. One of the most awesome feelings when attending hockeygames is when the homeground team comes out on the ice one by one before the game, and everyone is cheering (except the people who cheers for the other team). With all the flames and music, it really sets you in the mood for the game, because you get all thrilled and excited! Modo Hockey unfortunately lost on sudden death, even though they played genereally better the whole game. It was a good day!

    1. I'm also really into hockey and the derbys are always great! How come Modo is your favorite team?

    2. Basically, it's my dad who cheers for that team, and ever since I was a little kid he taught me that Modo was the team to cheer for. :D

  4. After school last Friday I went straight home because my family and I were going to the Swedish mountains to ski. I was very excited and happy since I love skiing. But the first day my mum got sick so my dad, my little brother and I went cross-country skiing without her. It was fun too, but since I like downhill skiing more I longed very much for that. Two days later my mum had recovered so we went downhill skiing and did so for the rest of the week.
What I like so much about downhill skiing is the great feeling of the skis that swishes over the snow, like I’m almost flying, and the wind that’s blowing in my face. When I have taken the lift up to the top of the mountain I can see the whole landscape all around me and it’s so beautiful. Mountain tops that are rising out of the black and green forests as far as one can see and the sun that’s shining and making the snow sparkle. I love it! What I don’t like about skiing is when the slopes are icy and when it’s too windy.
I also like to compete, and to win as well, so my brother and I always compete who is the fastest downhill. Usually I win.
Overall I had a great winter holiday.

    3. How was it? I've been there at least twice every year and have a lot of connections to it. As I told you,my grandfather acctually started Storhogna!

    4. I thought the slopes in Storhogna were good, but since there were only a few slopes they got boring after a while. But the slopes in Vemdalen I enjoyed very much. :)

  5. My day started at 8 in the morning when I woke up. I had an appointment with my hairdresser at 10.30 and I thought I had loads of time before I had to leave. That was until my sister came into my room and said that I had to give our dog breakfast before taking him to daycare. I had no idea that I was supposed to take him that day. Suddenly I didn’t have that much time anymore. I was really stressed and I rushed to get dressed and to give our dog his breakfast. But our dog doesn’t like to eat and that day he was even more difficult than usual. After a while of him not eating anything we had to leave. So I said he could go and threw away the food that was left.
When I got back home I had to hurry to get ready to go. I was just about to leave when I remembered that I had forgotten the money I needed to pay the hairdresser. My mom had told me the day before that there was some money in a box in the basement. The only problem was that I didn’t know where in the basement or what box to look for, and I was already late. I tried to call her but she didn’t answer. Finally I found the money and I was able to leave.
I got to the hairdresser a few minutes late but she didn’t mind. I told her that I wanted to dye my upper hair darker and my tips blonde so I could color the tips in a peach color later. The whole process took five hours, mostly because I had to dye my hair twice and she was also really thorough.
I’m really happy with my haircut. My plan was to dye it in a peach color as soon as I got home but I think I’m going to keep the blonde tips for a while.

    1. It was a nice story to read Ida, and I'm glad that it all went well in the end. I have one question for you. Are looks important to you? Do you find it fun to dye your hair in different colours and to pick out clothes who you think look pretty? ('Cause I know that I do!) Best regards, Julia.

    2. Yes I think it's really fun to play with looks and try different things. I also like to watch fashion videos on youtube and get inspired by those people.

  6. During my holiday I arranged a concert, and it was very stressful, and fun! The concert was being held at a place called "Black Sheep", in Solna, where I also rehearse with my band.

When we were moving things into the concert-hall,I suddenly saw someone who looked familiar to me. I stood there for quite a time, trying to figure out who this person possibly could be. Then it hit me. It was Nicke from "The Hellacopters".

"The Hellacopters" is an "old school" rock'n'roll band from Sweden, with hits like "I'm in the band",and "Rainy days revisited". The members of the former band, are all well-known muscians, who have succeded quite well. Believe me if I say that I became a bit "starstrucked".

The funny thing is though, that my father kind of knows this Nicke, and that Nicke actually has slept on our cautch over the night, one time for many, many years ago.
(Ofcourse, back then, I was only a child and couldn't possibly understand the true beauty of rock'n'roll, and its legends).

I finally managed to stop stare at him, and walked away smiling, thinking that a so called "rockstar",
had slept in my home. Maybe fame is a bit overrated,
    I thought to myself.

    3. Why didn't you tell Nicke that you admire him? Why didn't you talk to him? And why was he in a small consert like that..? ;)

  7. In the beginning the spring break I spent three consecutive days at home playing games with my friends and sleeping way too much. I felt that I needed to get off my ass and do something, so I made plans to go skiing with one of my classmates. For some reason we didn't go skiing and instead I spent the entire day at home, again.

Sorry if it's too short i couldn't think of anything more to write.

  8. I went to sing with my choir. Right know we are practicing for a trip to Austria where we will sing vocal pieces by Otto Olsson and Mozart. We also made a recording for our new wedsite. I really like to sing in this choir because everyone can hang out with each other and we get along very well! And even if it feels weird to write it, we're pretty professional...

  9. During the break I played a lot of football with my mates, but I mostly watched a lot of football. So when my favourite team Liverpool FC was about to play against Wigan Athletic away from our homeground Anfield I have to say that I was really nervous. Since Liverpool have been so inconsitant over the season i didn't really know what to expect. Surely we are a better team than Wigan but you can never really be sure about Liverpool, one day they're trashing Swansea 5-0, but then the next day they're loosing to Aston Villa. Anyway the game started of great with a Liverpool goal in the second minute of the game by Stuart Downing. I have to admit that I never would have thought Liverpool would be able to equalize that early on and that was very relieving. But the team was really on fire that day. And the goals just kept coming, at last the game ended 4-0 to Liverpool, after a hattrick from the great striker that is Luis Suarez. Therefore i was really happy and finally we've achieved some momentum in our struggle to finally relive past glory at Liverpool FC. This game really put a big smile on my face, and it really gave me a tremendous feeling inside. Hopefully we'll keep up the momentum against Tottenham next saturday, and claim another victory.

  10. This holiday I went to Berlin with my grandma, it was a suprise gift from her. I was really excited because I've never been there before. But it didn't really start off as i thought it would do. I woke up on the day I was going to voyage and had a mean headache and nausea. I asumed it only was some travelling fever.

Then twenty minutes before we where about to leave the house I vomited. I still went to the airport and didn't vomit a single time again during the day(thank God). When we finally arrived to the hotel I crashed on the bed and slept for two hours. Then I ate some dinner at a nice restaurant with my grandma.

The next day I woke up and felt so much better and we went out in the big city! We saw the Brandenburgen Tor and soo much more! I must confess that I have falling a little bit in love with Berlin, even if i just went there for five days. The rest of the vaccasion was vomit free and I am really glad I went there despite the circumstances. Ich bin eine Berliner!
